Basing his entire campaign on his VietNam service was incredibly shortsighted and myopic. I guess he knew his senate record was so blatantly leftist if he focused on it he would not come across very well with the average voter. His actions after returning from Nam (throwing his medals away, or wait he didn't really throw them?) speak more about him IMO.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Current and former servicepeople aren't running as the incumbent vice presidential candidate. Cheney can criticize Kerry's service but he opens himself up for just the kind of blast the Kerry gave him.

It is the ultimate in hypocrisy for a man who got 5....FIVE....deferments to service in Vietnam, to tell a man who was IN combat that his service was not valid.

It?s oblivious that Kerry?s service record was a set up for later political action. While I was not in the service I can?t believe someone can get 3 purple harts in 4 months and never have to spend one night in the hospital. I also don?t know of any other service people who shot 8 mm film of themselves in combat reenactments, came home and pretended to throw away his medals and then pulled them out again when he thought he could get political leverage from them.

When you do that you will open yourself up for the critques that Cheney has invited. I still believe it is the ultimate in hypocrisy for a man who received 5 deferments when there was nothing wrong with him to criticize ANYONE who went.

I'm a bit late to this particular party, but I'd like to point out that the Bush administration has publicly stated that Mr. Kerry served honorably.

Mr. Kerry, on the other hand, is trying to make a campaign out of bashing Messrs. Bush and Cheney.

Trav and I had a discussion the other night. I'm no great W supporter, and if the Dems had nominated Lieberman and/or Zell Miller, I'd really rethink my vote.

Yes, Kerry served in Vietnam. Yes, he was decorated.

Your right, but what pisses me off is how the Democratic party's candidate is now a flag waving, military supporting, "war hero" and the Vietnam war is something they are proud of. But, their last President was a draft dodging scum bag and then the Vietnam war was in the past and not important.
